Brian Keeler's art continues to impress collectors and patrons with lifes and portraits. His small and intimate studies and large-scale colorful landscapes of the northeast are distinctive for their conception, but with subject matter that is characteristic and specific. Working on location in the plein-air, also known as the alla prima method for many of his paintings, he then often transforms these studies into larger more elaborate studio works. Working primarily in oil, pastel, acrylic and sometimes watercolor, his work shows an interest in an academic kind of realism with appreciation of those historical artists who specialized in the portrayal of light, i.e., Rembrandt, Sargent and Eakins. To diversify and keep his creative juices flowing he explores and sketches his vision with paintings of interiors, figures and still life compositions. All of his paintings, however, have the unifying thread of portraying the beauty of light while ordering the compositions into pleasing arrangements, where he explores the overall dynamics, harmonies and proportions of compositions. In short, Brian is interested in the internal order of the picture, while conveying something personal about the subjects portrayed.
Keeler's art has received numerous awards throughout the northeast over a career that spans 35 years. The artist has had a love for all things Italian for almost 20 years where he has been teaching classes and leading cultural tours and, of course, enjoying the cuisine and history.
